The 11th Lee Kuan Yew Global Business Plan Competition seeks innovative students from around the world to reimagine a future made possible by deep technology

The Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship (IIE) at Singapore Management University (SMU) on Thursday announced the opening of applications for its flagship event, the 11th Lee Kuan Global Business Plan Competition. Yew (LKYGBPC).

The outbreak of the pandemic presented unprecedented challenges, creating the impetus to reinvent the way of life and thus unlocking the possibilities to explore uncharted paths, the institute said in a statement.

Thematic novelties Without borders – Reinventing a smart, sustainable and resilient futureThe 11th LKYGBPC aims to bring together the brightest talents and entrepreneurial minds from universities around the world, where they challenge each other to come up with ideas and solutions that will meet modern challenges to achieve a smart, sustainable and resilient.

The largest of its kind in the region, LKYGBPC focuses on high-tech solutions created by founding students and early-stage start-ups across a wide range of industries, including human health and potential, manufacturing, commerce and connectivity, media and entertainment. , Smart Nation & Digital Economy, as well as Urban Solutions and Sustainability, among others.

Entrants can choose to participate in two categories – 0 to 1, which focuses on pre-revenue teams with disruptive technology or innovations, or 1 to Infinity, which focuses on revenue-generating start-ups, up in the Series A funding stages. Entrants can choose to compete individually or as a team.

An international jury composed of global industry experts and entrepreneurs will be responsible for evaluating the entries based on their innovative character, the impact of the idea, the differentiation from existing solutions and the feasibility of execution.

In June 2023, 50 Breakthrough Finalist Teams (RVLT50) will be selected and two members of each team will be eligible for a sponsored trip (airfare and accommodation) to Singapore to attend BLAZE, LKYGBPC Finals Week from September 11-15, 2023, where they will have the opportunity to participate in activities focused on innovation, knowledge, mentoring and networking over the course of a week.

BLAZE will also see the selection of Grand Finalist teams who will pitch live to a panel of judges for the top prize in the Beta Category and Infinity Category. The winning teams will be announced on September 15, 2023.

  • VC office hours: A flagship industry event with senior partners from leading venture capital firms, who collectively manage assets totaling $19 billion, offering one-on-one consultations with start-ups
  • Category finals: Selection of the best Grand Finalist teams for the Beta and Infinity category awards
  • Grand Final: Live Pitch by Grand Finalists for Beta Category and Infinity Category Top Prize
  • Mixer party: An evening of cross-generational conversation between LKYGBPC finalists, senior corporate executives, government agencies and Singaporean youth

The 10th edition of LKYGBPC in 2021 attracted more than 850 applications from 650 universities in 60 countries and regions. RVLT50 included teams from various leading universities in Asia, Europe and the United States of America.
