Seneca Resources Co., the exploration and production segment of National Fuel Gas Co., recently obtained certification for all of its Appalachian natural gas production, a daily gross production of more than 1 billion cubic feet, according to the Equitable Origin EO100 standard for responsible energy development.
Equitable Origin is a non-profit organization whose certification is based on a set of comprehensive and globally applicable environmental, social and corporate governance performance objectives.
Geosyntec, a consulting and engineering firm that works with private and public sector clients, performed an audit of Seneca’s operations in Pennsylvania as part of the certification process. This included interviews with internal and external stakeholders, a field assessment of its operations, and a review of Seneca Resources’ documented programs.
The purpose of the audit was to assess Seneca’s alignment with the five principles of the EO100 standard.
“Seneca’s Equitable Origin certification validates our culture and long history of environmental responsibility and community engagement,” said Justin Loweth, President of Seneca. “We will continue to adopt new technologies and implement best practices in order to stay at the forefront of industry sustainability initiatives. Additionally, as we look to the future, we anticipate that certification of Seneca’s entire Appalachian natural gas base will differentiate our responsible, low-intensity methane production to end users and commercial markets.
