State Sen. John Yudichak (I-Luzerne/Carbon) joined Luzerne County Visitors Bureau Executive Director Alan Stout and Acting Luzerne County Executive Romilda Crocamo on Wednesday to celebrate a $250,000 tourism grant that the visitors bureau received.

The grant from the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) was awarded under the Marketing Grants Program to Attract Tourists.

The senator’s office said tourism in Luzerne County has a huge economic impact, generating more than $1 billion a typical year and supporting more than 7,000 jobs.

“The success of the tourism industry in Luzerne County is critical to continuing the historic economic growth and development that is currently taking place in Northeastern Pennsylvania,” said Senator Yudichak. “I was determined to help the Tourism Board secure this funding to support their promotion and marketing efforts to bring more people to our beautiful region. As we continue to bounce back from the COVID-19 pandemic, we must continue to invest in job creation and retention, and tourism is an important industry that will help Northeast Pennsylvania move toward a future more prosperous economy.

The grant will be used to market the area through a two-sided outdoor LED sign outside the Convention and Visitors Center on Wilkes-Barre Boulevard to promote county events; new branding and marketing materials for the Visitors Bureau, as well as marketing campaigns on digital and social platforms; and photography, videography and website upgrades for use in various advertising campaigns to increase tourism.

“We appreciate and appreciate Senator Yudichak’s support for the Visitors’ Office. This grant will help us promote tourism in Luzerne County through new and expanded marketing initiatives. With the new large digital signage purchased with the grant, this will also help promote the location of our new Visitor Center and so on a daily basis will help promote upcoming events and activities in Luzerne County said Stout. “The economic impact of tourism in Luzerne County is significant, and it’s great to have a senator who understands that. This grant will help support the tourism industry while promoting all the wonderful things in see and do here in our area.
