Give us the elevator pitch for your work.

As a business manager, I am responsible for managing and/or overseeing human resources, payroll, accounting, and purchasing of our school’s operations.

What is your favorite part of your job?

My job is demanding and very busy. I like the high volume and the challenges that come with the job. I also like problem solving. It is very rewarding to find solutions and improve organizations. I firmly believe that my strengths are improving processes and procedures as a manager.

Why did you choose the SIU?

Honestly, I think SIU chose me. I came to SIU as a student, undergraduate special education student. I married my husband in 1993 after graduating from SIU. At that time, I was a full-time student working in Human Resources (HR) as a student employee. Opportunities quickly opened up there for full-time employment, and I loved the work and training I did there. So when I was asked to apply, I did. Before too long, my husband and I decided to have a child, and my career moved forward and I was promoted to HR. Later, I moved to the College of Education and Human Services and was promoted several times there as well. I loved my job, my colleagues and the SIU! I chose SIU after he chose me, and I never looked back. It’s a great career! I am approaching retirement this year, towards the end of 2021, and I am very grateful to the SIU and all my memorable years here.

When I was a kid, I wanted to be ___ when I grew up.

I wanted to be a lawyer when I grew up. I don’t know exactly why it was one of my dreams. Maybe it’s because I always think I’m right about everything (or so I’m told). Being a lawyer would have suited my personality.

The world needs…

The world must promote individual responsibility. It’s a simple phrase but one that I’ve always tried to form myself. I think everyone is responsible for their own successes and failures.
