Pittsburgh-based PPG recently announced that it is increasing production at its Huntsville, Alabama and Sylmar, California manufacturing facilities to meet customer demand for commercial aerospace aftermarket products. .
This should increase employment at the facilities by up to 20%.
“We have benefited from year-over-year improvements in the market,” said Dan Korte, global vice president of aerospace for PPG. “As travelers continue to return to the skies, we are focused on meeting the immediate and longer-term needs of our customers.”
PPG’s global aerospace business offers packaging and application systems, adhesives, sealants, clear armor, transparencies, coatings, chemical management and other services.
The company also announced that it would invest in its European facilities.
PPG is spending $17 million to build an application support center in Toulouse, France. It is expected to begin operations in the fourth quarter of 2023.
The aerospace plant in Shildon, UK is commissioning an automatic filling machine to increase production of ready-to-use cartridge-based systems that store, mix and facilitate the application of aerospace sealants.
PPG operates in more than 75 countries and works with customers in construction, consumer products, industrial and transportation markets, and aftermarkets. In 2021, it had net sales of $16.8 billion.
The company has been around for almost 140 years.
