Richland County business owners have until May 1 to renew their business licenses.
A new state law requiring cities, towns and counties to standardize business licensing practices extended the license expiration period beyond the county’s previous end date 2021. License renewal forms will be sent out mailed to business owners in April and must be delivered by May 1, according to a county press release.
“We are excited to implement the changes required by Law SC 176 to make doing business in South Carolina easier by streamlining the business licensing process,” said Zachary Cavanaugh, director of business services for Richland County, in the communicated. “The business license renewal process will start in April instead of January, which will be one of the main differences businesses will notice. “
Renewals will still be based on income in calendar year 2021 or the previous year, the release said. Every business, including home-based ones, needs a license to operate legally.
