CAE Selected as DOD Training Program Partner > Columbia Business Report

The Columbia Metropolitan Airport was selected as a partner in a United States Department of Defense program that matches military men and women with companies for internships and training opportunities.

The SkillBridge program is open to those who have six months or less of active duty remaining and have an approved separation date on honorable terms. The program currently includes more than 250 industry partners such as Boeing, Lockheed Martin and Home Depot.

“Opening CAE’s doors and welcoming military personnel after they have served our country is a special privilege,” said Mike Gula, CAE’s Chief Executive Officer, in a statement. “So far, two participants have successfully completed CAE’s SkillBridge program. This mutually beneficial program is one that CAE is proud to support.

CAE is the only South Carolina airport currently participating in the SkillBridge program, according to the release.

Chris Davis is one of the CAE SkillBridge participants. After starting in the airport operations department as an intern, Davis, who holds a master’s degree in human resources, transitioned to director of human resources when a member of the team retired.

“I was fortunate enough to be able to take advantage of the Department of Defense’s SkillBridge program prior to my military retirement,” Davis said. “This program has provided me with an invaluable opportunity to transition from a senior uniformed non-commissioned officer overseeing six military airfields from a strategic perspective, to wearing pants and a collared shirt to navigate my way through life within of a civilian workforce. On my first day at CAE, I had no idea it would turn into this full-time opportunity, and I’m so grateful for this program and CAE. SkillBridge is definitely a win-win solution for everyone involved.

Two new SkillBridge participants begin their internships this week at CAE, working in the Human Resources and Engineering departments.
