53 Students Receive Ride of Your Life Scholarships > Columbia Business Report

Fifty-three high school students received scholarships through the South Carolina State Fair’s The Ride of Your Life program.

The $6,000 scholarships are awarded at an annual rate of $1,500 to students planning to continue their education at any public or private college, university, or private college in the state. Awards are based on academic and extracurricular achievement, communication skills, need, and completeness of application.

This year, a donation of $20,000 from Circle K stores enabled the SC State Fair to award three additional scholarships.

“We are honored and thrilled to recognize these 53 outstanding students,” said Nancy Smith, executive director of State Fair, in a press release. “Educating the state’s youth is a priority of the fair. We feel fortunate to be able to continue our scholarship program throughout the difficult times of the past few years.

Scholarships can cover tuition fees or other educational expenses like on-campus housing, a computer, or textbooks. Recipients must maintain a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale and enroll in at least 30 credit hours each academic year to receive funding for that year.

Since the Ride of Your Life program began in 1997, more than $4 million in scholarships have been awarded.
